Last summer I had a multi-part series on sexuality and gender. Our society continues on its descent into madness, and I often feel like I am in a dystopian novel. Who would have ever thought that saying there are only two sexes, male and female, could get you labeled a hater and bigot? Yet here we are. We must be willing to speak truth, thoughtfully and carefully, not with anger or harshness. I am reminded of this from G.K. Chesterton:
“We shall soon be in a world in which a man may be howled down for saying that two and two make four, in which furious party cries will be raised against anybody who says that cows have horns, in which people will persecute the heresy of calling a triangle a three-sided figure, and hang a man for maddening a mob with the news that grass is green.”
In my series, I recommend two books. One by Nancy Pearcey: Love Thy Body, Answering Hard Questions about Life and Sexuality, Baker Books, 2018. My review HERE. The other book is: Irreversible Damage, the Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters by Abigail Shrier (Regnery Publishing, 2020). My review HERE.
Irreversible Damage is not about transgender adults or about “gender dysphoria” – that is, a very rare disorder and diagnosis (less than .01 percent of the population) that emerged in early childhood, afflicted mostly males, and fairly often they outgrew it. Rather this is about whole groups of females in middle schools, high schools, and colleges that are coming out as transgender. This is a “sudden” thing, meaning that prior to this the girls had no signs or symptoms of the rare “gender dysphoria” diagnosis. It is like a peer contagion, craze, or fad. But unlike other fads, which can be harmless, this fad is anything but – with young women irreversibly damaged by it.
With that, would you join me in prayer for Dr. Sidhbh Gallagher? https://www.facebook.com/drsidhbhgallagher
She is a plastic surgeon specializing in “gender confirmation surgeries.” Dr. Gallagher sees herself as a hero helping those who (think they) are transgender or non-binary. She is not beyond redemption and needs our prayers and compassion. A content warning about her facebook page: you will see many photos of female teens who have had “top surgery” and are on hormones. You will see photos of irreversibly damaged young women, and it is being celebrated.
Remember that Saul (the apostle Paul) was initially persecuting Christians and saw himself as doing God’s work, but then his life took a complete turn, and he became the greatest Christian missionary that has ever lived. People can change, especially through the power of the gospel.
I’d be encouraged to know that others might join me in praying for Dr. Gallagher.
Pray for Christ to have mercy on her.
Pray that “God will grant her repentance leading her to a knowledge of the truth, and that she will come to her senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken her captive to do his will.” (from 2 Tim. 2:25)
Remember that “God our Savior, wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” (1 Tim. 2:4)
Remember how Paul’s life was transformed by Christ. “Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.” (1 Tim. 1:13-14)
In addition, pray for the young people and parents planning to come to her plastic surgery center that they will somehow come to their senses and reverse course. Indeed, some parents have been taken in by this gender ideology and totally affirm their child in it, viewed as heroes for doing so. Even parents who are not affirming find themselves in a very difficult situation, with powers that be circumventing their rights as parents.
(Perhaps leave a comment or otherwise get in touch to let me know you are joining me in prayer for Dr. Gallagher and her patients.)
Joining with you in prayer, Laura!
Thanks Bruce.
I will join you in prayer. It seems the perpetrators of these ghoulish practices, and others such as destroying the unborn and selling their organs, get a sense of power from their deeds. Destroying and manipulating life and making people dependent on medication for the rest of their lives is far from creating life. Perhaps it is like the power Saul once felt persecuting Christians.
Your words get to the heart of it keithakenny. Thanks for your comments and for joining me, and others, in prayer.
