I hear men praying everywhere for more faith, but when I listen to them carefully, and get to the real heart of their prayer, very often it is not more faith at all that they are wanting, but a change from faith to sight…. – Phillips Brooks
Just a brief post. The quote above challenged me personally. I think he is right. Too often, a desire for more faith is actually a desire for more sight. We want answers. We want clarity. Let’s face it – faith can be hard. Some things about Christianity are easy to believe, but other things are hard to believe. Sometimes the path of life seems clear, but other times it is filled with uncertainty or difficulties. Our prayers for more faith, if we are really honest with ourselves, may actually be prayers for less faith. What we really want are answers for all of our doubts or questions. However, if all of our doubts were resolved, then there would be no need for faith! Faith is an integral part of Christianity.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. Hebrews 11:6
